We recently hosted our first Sappy Hour—an open-to-the-public, after-hours, monthly meet up every 1st Friday night. The idea behind Sappy Hour is to offer a fun, inspiring space for local women to come together for positive but low-key fellowship (is mellow-ship a thing?). Each month, we’ll team up with a local woman in our community who will showcase her trade or craft in an intimate setting. Featured partners during Sappy Hours may include everything from wellness & beauty services to trunk shows, to activities—anything we think is fun and wanna share with you while also supporting other professional women in our community. Rather than a stuffy, members-only type model, our goal is to support women-centered camaraderie (supported by fresh drinks and good vinyl). All women and forward-thinking men are welcome, because we encourage the same inclusion we’ve practiced in both our women’s and men’s shops over the years.
Jill James, Owner of The Jill Brows, recently took the leap and launched her own brow and lash lift service. You can find her at Arch Haus Studio in Long Beach. Jill has been a friend for years, and we loved experiencing her practice her craft on Friday via complimentary brow & lash consultations, half or full brow waxes and brow fill-ins. Not only did she get us looking super polished, but she also educated each lady on basic brows maintenance & make-up recommendations we can use in our daily beauty routines. The brow craze can be intimidating to some of us, but Jill takes a natural, easy approach that left us all feeling a little better about ourselves. Yay, self-care!
When a wonderfully sweet and brave man steps up and offers to bartend for Sappy Hour, you say hell yeah! Lam is a neighbor and colleague (part of Agency Void who works with both our shops helping us look hella legit online and in-store). Among his many skills and talents, Lam used to bartend in New York, and his unique spin on The Kentucky and Moscow Mule (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions) with fresh rosemary & lime were perfection. Our shop Manager Extraordinaire, Chelsea (dubbed DJ Scratch ‘N Cheese) spun everything from James Taylor to Charles Bradley to keep the good times rolling long past 9 pm.
If you were one of the lovely ladies who joined us, you may have noticed a few surprise bonuses (wink wink) during Sappy Hour—because what IS a Sappy Hour anyway without fun deals?! And we’re super amped to have raised a little money for Times Up, thanks to all your generous donations! We want to keep Sappy Hour nights free of charge for everyone so that your hard-earned dollars go to supporting us (purchase not required but forever appreciated), our event partners, and Times Up!
If you couldn’t make it, we won't completely hold it against you (this time), but we will expect you at the next one! Go ahead and let your boss know you’re gonna need to call it a day a little early next time, and start your weekend off right! Stay tuned on social media to see what’s in store for our next Sappy Hour on Friday, December 7th, and subscribe to our email list if you’d like to get gentle reminders.
