The trench coat is an outerwear piece every woman should have in her closet. Given its iconic status, you’d think styling the trench would be a breeze, but it’s easy to get lost in the idea that it can only be worn one way. That’s where we come in. At Snake Eyes Society, we’re huge fans of pieces that can transition from day to night, work to play. Our go-to this season is the Levi’s Made and Crafted Silk Surplus Trench (Retail $348). A modernized, on-trend but still totally classic spin on the tried and true, this trench/ robe mash up can do no wrong. Made from ecru-colored raw silk, which is naturally textured and slubby, and breathable. Hello, low-key luxury! Let’s look at a few of our favorite ways to style....
1 Throw and Go. Literally, throw it on with your most comfy things, whether you’re running to the farmer’s market or meeting your girl for coffee. This one-piece instantly pulls together almost any casual outfit and the neppy silk is the perfect lighter-weight layering piece for that cool breeze that sneaks up on ya out of nowhere. We paired this trench with our A.P.C. Sailor Jeans ($220) and Levi’s Stripe Back Scoop Tee ($35).
2 Does it come in black?! Real talk, a bad-ass all black outfit has never betrayed us or Charlize (à la Atomic Blonde). Just like the platinum double agent we wish we were cool enough to be, we dig pairing something tailored and feminine for an interesting contrast to our black and edgy pieces. To complete this look we suggest shopping our Levi’s Alexander Silk Shirt ($74), A.P.C. High Standard Black Jeans ($220), and our Frye Modern Harness Chelsea Boot ($528).
3 Short skirt, long jacket. Cake made a valid point…maybe you have a first date or are tryna to shake up casual Friday at work. Either way, this trench, a great denim skirt, and some killer heeled boots can accomplish both. The combo we styled pairs dark and light washed denim, or you can easily switch out the long sleeve for a tee for a more casual (but still seriously put together) look. Styled with A.P.C. Standard Skirt ($135), Levi’s Classic Light Wash Western Shirt ($74.50), and the Frye Flynn Omaha Short Boot ($378).
Made & Crafted is a premium Levi’s line not found in many women’s retail shops. Production is much smaller-batch; fabrics are unique, premium, and often proprietary; and availability is much more limited. M & C is one of Levi’s more high-end collections, and this season features beautiful Japanese fabrics and dyeing techniques, unique slubby textiles, and modernized interpretations on vintage pieces.
